Rough Magic by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, presented through special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc. New York, NY. Photographs by John Johnson. Lighting and Projections Designer Patrick Angle.

Photo 1: R27 provides a rich and deep purple red that conveys the fear of the girl without appearing harsh on the skin.

Photo 2: An early design for the city street, utilizing daylight colors such as R02 from the front and R03 from behind. R08 is cast from Stage Left to provide direction to the sun. Also visible is the projected street that places the scene. The entire show was performed on the same set, and animated projected environments set the location.

Photo 3: The same scene as photo two, but in final production lighting. After being revised, the scene features blues in varying intensities to convey the coming of night and the trouble that lays ahead. R78 lights from behind, and gives the haze it's distinctly rich hue. R66 from the front provides a cool wash of light only on center stage, and R360 from the sides provides additional depth to the blues on stage.

Photo 4: Every show should impress from the moment the house opens until the last person has left the house. A deep R59 from 10 front sources and 4 side sources give the set an ominous feeling, and blend well with R27 from behind.

Photo 5: Trapped on an island, authority is brought into question. The scene is much lighter that our previous encounters on the island, and power is diminishing. Projected on the Cyc, we see the storm has calmed from it's earlier waves, rain, and lighting.
