Artist Dan Schneiger shares his “FoamCoat technique” for creating Neo-Brutalist sculpture, furniture and lamps out of foam and other multi-media elements.

Designer Heidi Hoffer conducted a foam carving workshop that discussed how to prime foam that included a section on how to prime foam scenery with Rosco FoamCoat and CrystalGel scenic coatings.

This Cynderblock office was built for about $100.00 in an empty space used as a studio at the Art Institute of Charleston. Roscoe's foam coat on some left over insulation foam and 2x8 inspired one of our star students to experience the benefits of a built set over trying to fudge an existing office. Roscoe Products allow students who often skip lunch because of student loan payments - to dream a little bigger! Thomas Bono, Director/Art Director constructed this set with the help of You Tube Tutorials, patience, and tenacity!

This production required a dead black swan that was to be dragged through the house and onto the stage by its neck. I started by carving the head from pink insulation foam. For strength, I covered the beak with gauze soaked with Off-Broadway paint. The neck was made from a piece of aircraft cable wrapped in pipe insulation and then packing foam, all adhered with FlexBond and tape. The entire neck and head was then coated with Foamcoat and then the beak was sanded and painted with Off-Broadway paint. I carved out eye sockets and inserted black marbles for eyes.

Scenic Design for "MADAMA BUTTERFLY" for the Chicago Lyric Opera. Scenery and Projections by Clarke Dunham. Lighting by Ken Billington. Costumes by Florence Klotz. Directed by Hal Prince. Setting represents Butterfly's "Little House On the Hill" and can be viewed from all angles as the revolve unit moves to its different positions, pulled by Kabuki "Koken" (stagehands). Prince, Dunham and Billington then portray the entire passing of hours during the Humming Chorus through many changes of turntable, projections and lighting.
